Ch. 6 & 11 Responses

Chapter 6
I would prefer to work in a classroom that had more technological devices. For example, data projectors are useful in the classroom for allowing one item to get enlarged for the whole class to see at once. This can help lower the cost of paper because only one sheet is being used to get enlarged instead of printing off 30 or more papers for one class period. According to page 157 in Chapter 6 of the EDTL book, "When compared to large CRT monitors, a large-screen plasma or LCD monitor can be a cost-effective means for classroom display." Portable storage or flash drives are also helpful in classrooms because students can take their work home with them. If they don't finish something in class they can store it on their flash drive to finish on any different computer. According to page 161 in Chapter 6 of the EDTL book, ". . .data are easily saved and transported on a large-capacity storage device that can fit on a key chain." Technological devices are good in a classroom because they help students thrive, and they help teachers present information in a more appealing way.

Chapter 11
Their are many audio and visual technologies used in the classroom. For example, one traditional audio technology is the talking book, which helps children read, listen, and understand a book more thoroughly. According to page 289 in Chapter 11 of the EDTL book, "Students can either read along with a talking book or listen and respond to questions as the audio book or story progresses." One emerging audio technology is the Internet audio, which helps teachers support visual learners in their classroom by showing clips off the Internet to support what they are teaching. According to page 291 in Chapter 11 of the EDTL book, "Using internet radio, you can download and store only what you need rather than having to buy a full CD that may have only a few portions that are useful as supplements to your lesson." One traditional video technology is broadcast video or television, which a teacher may use to show their class to help support what they are teaching in the classroom. According to page 299 in Chapter 11 of the EDTL book, "Public Broadcasting Service (PBS)" is a form of this broadcast video. Finally, one emerging video technology is Internet meetings, which can help people from anywhere to meet and learn together. According to page 307 in Chapter 11 of the EDTL book, "For educators, such Internet meeting software can let classes around the globe meet together in a single virtual classroom to share ideas, experience instruction, and communicate with each other."
